It has been announced that the Queen’s funeral will take place on Monday 19th September 2022. This has been declared a public bank holiday by King Charles III. It will also be classed as the last day of the period of national mourning.

Who can take the day off work?

With the government announcing that the national holiday on the 19th September 2022, it will be treated like a standard bank holiday.

This means that there is no statutory requirement for employers to let their staff have the day off. But employers may include bank holidays as par of a worker’s leave entitlement.
